WHEN CONVERSATION BECOMES A DAILY UPDATE

What else happened
in your day?

Between work, errands, and deciding what to eat, it's easy for a conversation to become a list of updates. You might want to hear more about each other's day and still find yourself asking the same familiar question.

“How was your day?”
“Fine. Yours?”

You remember to ask about the meeting, but never get around to asking how they're feeling about it.

When you finally sit down together, neither of you has much energy left to think of something to ask.

Pick a card and see where the answer takes you. You don't need to work through the whole deck.

THREE ACTUAL CARDS FROM THE KIT

Pick the one
you'd like to ask.

Here are three examples from the deck. Ask whichever one interests you, then use the follow-up if you'd like to hear more.

A LITTLE LIGHTER / 02

What ordinary thing has been unexpectedly good lately?

NOTICE THE GOOD / 09

What small moment between us have you quietly enjoyed recently?

YOUR WORLD LATELY / 21

What would you like me to understand about your energy this week?

You can both answer the same question, choose another card, or leave it there.

CHOOSE A CONVERSATION FROM THE GUIDE

Have five minutes?
Or a whole evening?

05MINUTES

The everyday hello

When you're tired or short on time, use this short sequence to share something good from the day and something you appreciate about each other.

15MINUTES

The midweek catch-up

Find out what's been on each other's mind lately. The guide includes a way to ask whether your partner wants you to listen or help think something through.

30MINUTES

An evening for two

Settle in with a longer sequence that moves from playful questions to shared memories, current interests, and something you'd enjoy doing together.

The guide lists the card numbers for each sequence. The timings are approximate, so stop earlier or stay with a question for longer if you like.

WHEN YOU'RE NOT SURE WHAT TO SAY

Sometimes it helps
to ask before advising.

When someone tells you about a difficult day, it's easy to start suggesting solutions. They may want that, or they may just want to tell you what happened. The guide offers examples like this:

“Would you like me to listen, think it through with you, or help with something practical?”

It also covers losing your train of thought, an awkward pause, and how to stop a conversation and return to it later.

MEET THE PSYCHOLOGIST BEHIND THE KIT

Meet Tessa,
the creator of the kit.

Created by Tessa, MSc Psychologist, with 15+ years of experience in mental health care.

Tessa holds an MSc in Health & Social Psychology and a BSc in Psychology & Neuroscience from Maastricht University. Her background includes ACT, self-compassion, and trauma-informed practice.

Outside her work, Tessa is married and has a daughter and a son. She and her husband have been together for ten years.

This kit reflects Talk2Tessa's approach to everyday self-help: clear instructions, realistic expectations, and a choice about how much to share. Alongside the questions, you'll find practical help with listening, asking a follow-up, and pausing when you need to.

There are no scores or required disclosures. Both of you can skip a question, and you don't have to agree on an answer.

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE KIT

A few practical details.

How is this different from a free list of questions?

A free list is useful when you just want a question to ask. This kit puts 48 cards, their follow-ups, and a practical guide in one place. You also get three suggested card sequences and files laid out for printing or reading on your phone.

What if my partner isn't a big talker?

Ask whether they'd like to try one question together. A short answer is fine, and you can skip anything that doesn't appeal. Both people need to want to take part; the cards can't make someone want to talk.

Is this for new couples or long-term partners?

Both. The questions cover interests, everyday experiences, appreciation, and things you might enjoy together. Some refer to shared memories, so newer couples may want to skip or adapt those.

Do I need a printer, Canva, or an app?

No. You can open the phone edition in a PDF viewer. If you want physical cards, use the included A4 or US Letter file and print single-sided at 100%. No Canva account is needed. The files are not editable templates or fillable forms.

What exactly will I receive?

One ZIP containing four PDFs: the 10-page guide, 12-page A4 cards, 12-page US Letter cards, and 50-page phone edition. There are 48 unique question cards. Print and phone editions repeat those same questions so you can choose your format.

Is the kit a therapy program?

No. It is an everyday psychological self-help resource. The kit itself has not been clinically tested. It is not designed to address abuse, coercion, serious conflict, or a situation where speaking openly feels unsafe.

Can we use it more than once?

Yes. Keep the files and reuse the cards. You might choose a different theme next time, or find that your answer to a familiar question has changed. The license covers personal use for you and your partner, not resale, public sharing, or use with paying clients.

Choose a time when you both feel willing and able to talk. If you fear a partner's reaction or experience intimidation, seek appropriate confidential support rather than using this kit to work through it.
